CARBINE. Cal. 44. S# 2. Clever conversion of a Remington Percussion Revolver to Carbine configuration. The revolver pistol grip is replaced by a weld attached stock shank creating an interesting arm that can be appreciated by the Civil War enthusiast or re-enactor. 24" Rnd. replacement bbl. w/ blade front sight. Sides are tapered at breech end to match the frame contour. Bottom of bbl., frame & brass trigger guard are stamped # "2". The original 6 shot rnd. cap & ball cyl. & loading lever are retained. Added straight grip walnut stock has steel carbine buttplate. Left side of stock has hand applied marking "LT. J.A.C. 5TH CAV. GA.". Top of bbl. has partially visible added engraved "Spiller & Burr" marking. CONDITION: metal has mottled gray appearance w/ scattered areas of pitting & sm. dents. Transition from receiver to stock shanks shows file marks. Stock has dark worn appearance w/ handling marks having a crack extending from left side of frame. Action has weak spring tension. Bore has darkened appearance retaining intact rifling showing pitting in grooves. (01-17367/DS). ANTIQUE. $2,000-3,000.
