RIFLE. Cal. 12.17x44 Rimfire. NSN. Bbl. 33 3/4". Ladder rear sight graduated to 1300 meters. Stud type front sight. Receiver was marked on top tang "REMINGTONS ILLION N.Y. U.S.A." Patent dates "1864" and "1866". Concave style breechblock with out firing pin retractor. Sliding ejector retained by screw on left side. Walnut stock set. Buttstock and forend are marked on left side at front and rear of action with boxed "RPB" which would appear to be Robert P. Beals who inspected arms for various New England arms companies to include Springfield Armory and Remington. Buttstock is marked on right side with 10 oriental characters applied horizontially. Forend has 3 solid bands retained by springs. Bands have crown markings on right side. Flat ended ramrod measures 29 1/4". Sling swivels are located on middle band and belly of buttstock. CONDITION: stock set has moderate wear, staining and handling marks with notable denting at bottom of grip and top of comb. Inspectors marks are legible. Metal is turning gray and patina with wear and light oxidation. Screw heads indicate improper use of tools. Bore has a degree of shine with strong lands and scattered moderate pitting throughout.
