Cal. appears to be rebored to 40-65 or similar cartridge, originally marked "38". S# 1531. Bbl. 26" heavy weight of oct. to rnd. configuration. Top flat marked "E REMINGTON & SONS, ILION, N.Y" (Early marking used until 1888). Bead front sight w/ fixed V notch rear sight. Lever operated falling block action. Sporting & target configuration w/ steel capped walnut forearm & rnd. knob stock of fancy walnut w/ checkered wrist. LOP: 13 7/8" over crescent steel buttplate. Top tang has 2 open holes for sight installation. Estimated quantity of 8,000-10,000 mfg. 1883-1907. CONDITION: bbl. & action have mottled brown finish w/ evidence of touch up. Receiver has numerous sm. dents on front right & sides. Several action screws show heavy screw driver distortion. Wood has dark worn appearance w/ scratches, dents & handling marks. Bore has general pitting retaining largely intact rifling. (01-20019/DS). ANTIQUE. $800-1,200.
