ENGRAVED SMITH & WESSON NEW MODEL NO. 3 REVOLVER. Cal. 44 Russian. S# 25935. Bbl. 6 1/2" round with rib. Pinned blade bead front sight with windage adj. U-notch rear sight. Six-shot fluted cyl. This special-order revolver has 75% coverage of vine-type scroll hand engraving. Original finish was gold-plated with a case-colored hammer. Finely checkered trigger. Two-piece pearl grips. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Smith & Wesson letter signed by Roy G. Jinks states the following: "We have researched your Smith & Wesson New Model No. 3 revolver in company records, which indicate that your handgun, with serial number 25935, was specially ordered by F. E. Bennett, a world-famous target shooter. There is no record of what the special order was; however, there were three guns in the order, all consecutively numbered. These numbers were 25933, 25934, and 25935, and they were shipped from our factory on August 23, 1889, to F. E. Bennett in Boston, Massachusetts.". Also included is a handwritten transcription of an article describing an 1888 shooting match that Mr. Bennett participated in. CONDITION: metal has faded to gray, showing very light, scattered corrosion. Faint traces of the original gold finish can be seen around screw heads and protected areas around the trigger guard. Right grip panel has a small crack along the front grip strap with a small chip next to the action. Smooth mechanics. The lightly worn bore shows scattered pitting. (01-24188/DS).
