RIFLE. Cal. 58. S# 2302. Bbl. 40". Special Model 1861 percussion rifle mfg. by an unknown maker. Lockplate is marked "U.S." above Colt's mfg. information, with "1861" stamped at the tail. Bbl. is marked with the S# on the right, "1861" over the breech", and with "V/ P/ (EAGLE HEAD)" proofs and "STEEL" on the left. Underside of trigger guard is lightly engraved "Sam Colt". Left side of stock exhibits an inspector proof. Metal components are polished in-the-white, with the rear sight assembly being blued. 1 piece solid wood buttstock with ramrod. CONDITION: excellent, with metal components retaining bountiful amounts of their polished finish. Mirror bore, exhibiting strong rifling throughout. Stock shows a few minor marks from storage and handling, but is otherwise very good overall. (01-24523/MLW). ANTIQUE. $500-800.
