Cal. 58. NSN. Bbl. 42-1/4" full oct. signed "John Noll". Hand forged lock is unmarked. The gun was restocked by Jud Brennan in curly maple and is relief carved to rear of cheek piece. 4 Piece patch box has 4 piercings & is nicely engraved. Brass sideplate is also nicely engraved. A silver 8 pointed star on cheek piece is surrounded by 6 oval inlays. The silver wrist inlay is marked "GW". Noll was first listed in tax lists in 1788. Then in 1789 & 1790 John Noll served in Capt. Thomas Wallace's militia company after which he reappeared in tax lists as a gunsmith. He died in 1824. CONDITION: good to very good overall as restored by Jud Brennan, several cracks in forestock. The restoration on this rifle was performed by Jud Brennan, one of our country’s finest conservators of fine Kentucky Rifles. PROVENANCE: Estate of Frank Glenn Marsh. (01-21276).
