“WILLARD 1781”. Cal. 72. NSN. Bbl. 44" standard model 1763/66. Interesting carving on right side of buttstock w/ a caricature of the face & “WILLARD / ‘81’ “. Not sure who Willard was but the carving is old. The only other discernible markings are “IP” on sideplate. This is among the most common American used musket in the revolution & the “IP” is seen on many documented Revolutionary war used muskets, suggesting repair at Joseph Perkins shop in Philadelphia. Scattered dings, dents, scratches & cracks w/ overall hand worn patina. 2" Inset repair between lock & bbl. tang. Recent “NH” carved on bottom rear of trigger guard. Mechanically functional, w/ dark smooth bore. PROVENANCE: The Estate Collection of Gary Parietti. (01-19280/JS). ANTIQUE. $1,200-1,500.
