PISTOL. Cal. 9x19mm Parabellum. S# 2456. Bbl. 4". Likely originally produced as an LP.08 by DWM in 1915. This example was subsequently reworked after the conclusion of World War I into a standard P.08 configuration. The notched bbl. extension is marked "1915" over the chamber, with DWM arsenal proofs followed by an Imperial German Reichsadler on the right. Toggle exhibits the intertwined "DWM" monogram. Bbl. exhibits 2 Simson Eagle/6 proofs, with a Weimar eagle proof on the right. Rear toggle link is marked with a Simson Eagle/6 proof above "S". Rear of frame bears an unusual and unidentified Eagle/M95 proof mark. Major metal components exhibit a blued finish, with some smaller components exhibiting strawed or nitre blued finishes. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips. Matching numbers are present on the frame, takedown lever, safety lever & bar, bbl. & bbl. extension, breechblock, extractor, firing pin, toggles, rear toggle pin, as well as on the interior of the grips. Sideplate is force matched. MAGS: 2 - 8 Rd. (1 mag. is of contemporary production). CONDITION: metal components retain large amounts of their reapplied arsenal blue finish, exhibiting areas of wear and thinning, with some areas of mild oxidation and pitting present. Very bright bore, exhibiting strong rifling throughout. Grips show scattered marks and impressions, but otherwise remain sturdy and serviceable. Mag. bottom is missing its left "ear" and mag. body exhibits a dark gray patina. (23-6980/MLW). $700-1,000.
