ARMY CAVALRY MODEL REVOLVER. Cal. 45 Colt. S# 133555. Bbl. 7 1/2". Mfg. under contract for the U.S. Army in 1890. Top of the bbl. is marked with Colt's single line address. Left side of the frame is marked with patent information, followed by "U.S", with an "R.A.C." (Rinaldo A. Carr) sub-inspection proof stamped above the S# on the underside (repeated on underside of bbl., on side of cyl., and butt on left side of grip). Frame, hammer, and loading gate exhibit a case color hardened finish, with the bbl., ejector rod housing, and grip straps exhibiting a blue finish. Cyl. has been polished and reblued. Trigger and frame screws are nitre blued. Frame is mounted with a 1-piece smooth walnut grip, marked "1890" above a boxed "SEB" (Stanhope English Blunt) cartouche, with a boxed "RAC" cartouche marked on the right. Standard SAA pattern blade front sight and frame notched rear sight. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame, trigger guard, backstrap, and bbl. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Colt factory letter stating the following: "Serial Number: 133555 / Caliber: .45/c / Barrel Length: Not Listed / Finish: Blue / Type of Stocks: Not Listed / Sold To: United States Government Inspector / Address: located at the Colt plant / Date of Shipment: June 6, 1890 / Number of Same Type Guns in Shipment: 200". CONDITION: frame and hammer retain traces of their original case colored finish in protected areas, with the balance fading to a gray patina and showing spots/areas of light pitting. Hammer retains fair amounts of case coloring. Blued parts retain large amounts of their original finish, showing some areas of wear and thinning fading to gray patina, some scattered spots of light surface oxidation, as well as some areas with striations from prior cleaning. Cyl. retains the vast majority of its reapplied blue finish, showing some pitting beneath the finish on the front and rear faces. Very bright bore, exhibiting patches of light pitting and a few small areas of dark moderate pitting, while retaining well defined rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Grips show some wear to their varnish finish, as well as some scattered marks and minor impressions. (01-27798/MLW). ANTIQUE. $4,500-6,500.
