POWDER HORN & POSSIBLES BAG. Cal. 45. NSN. Bbl. 9" octagon to rnd. with faceted transition and rifled bore. Brass blade front sight with fixed square notch rear sight. Top flat is marked "R. ELKA". Robert A. Elka, 1938-2020, of Willis, MI was a gunsmith known for custom muzzle loading rifles and pistols. He was posthumously inducted into the Black Powder Hall of Fame in 2022. Engraved trade lock and hammer. Wedge fastened rnd. butt stock of fancy flame grained maple with wrap around hand checkered wrist. Brass fittings consist of floral engraved butt cap, trigger guard, and thimble along with a single pipe and brass nose cap. Hand engraved German silver fittings include a pierced sideplate and front lock screw escutcheon, along with 4-pointed oval key escutcheons. Oval wrist plate is engraved with builder's initials "r E a". UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: CLA Artists powder horn and possibles bag. Large curved powder horn measures 18" around outside curve. 1 side is inscribed "Powder Patch Brother Ball/ With yee Flint and Steel/ Shall Conquer All 1759". Opposite side features an American eagle holding banners marked "This Horn Made By" and "Robert A. Elka 2008". Scene on lower edge shows a hound and deer with buckskin clad hunter. Front and rear edges have a wavy crosshatch pattern border with old man moon motifs. Horn is suspended on a woven sash. 13x8 1/2" vinyl possibles bag with leather trim and and shoulder strap having a decorative lid patch of deer hide with white spots. Also included are photos pertaining to CLA Artists. CONDITION: fine, retaining a pleasing lightly faded browned metal finish with very good stock finish. Sound lock. Bore has a slightly frosted appearance retaining sharp rifling. Powder horn and possibles bag remain in fine original condition. (01-27915/DS). ANTIQUE. $1,500-2,500.
