WINCHESTER SHOTGUN. Cal. 20 Ga., 2 3/4". S# 27898. The 26" barrels marked for IC & Mod are fitted with slightly raised matted rib. Model, maker and gauge info are on side of left barrel. Blued small size standard type action features non automatic safety and blued selective single trigger. Action is engraved with sprays of very well cut relief shaded scroll. This scroll surrounds bulino type game scenes; left side having setter in open woodlands at rear and a flushing pheasant is toward front. Right side depicts a retriever handing a pheasant to his master in open field, another setter is at front. The portrait of a setter watching two departing quail is on trigger plate. Engraver's signature, "BY ROBERT SWARTLEY" is found under left rear scene. Bob Swartley studied under Josef Fugger during the 60's at Griffin & Howe. Pistol grip buttstock of crotch figured American walnut measures 14 1/4" over Winchester hard rubber buttplate, point pattern checkering is at grip and a gold oval engraved "JCR" is on toeline. Matching braced beavertail ejector forend has usual "J" spring and knurled button secondary release. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS: Bore Diameter: L .615". R .615". Restriction: L .009" (IC). R .004" (IC). Wall thickness: L .027". R .030". STOCK: DAH: 2 1/2". DAC: 1 9/16". CAST: neutral. LOP: 14 1/4". WEIGHT: 6 lb. 7 oz. CONDITION: fine as refinished after custom finishing at time of engraving. Barrels retaining about 80% reblue. Action with nearly all reblue over considerable light pitting, engraving slightly soft. Stocks retain most of an oil refinish, grip checkering worn, forend appears to be re cut. Bores are bright and shiny, action is tight, mechanically good. (22-5808/MGM). CURIO. $6,000-9,000.
