Cal. 22 Short RF. S# 5976. During the Civil War, Smith & Wesson could not produce enough No. 1 revolvers to meet demand. Rollin White in 1861 set up the Rollin White Arms Co. in Lowell, Mass. to meet the demand; estimated 10,000 total produced 1861-1865. This revolver has 3 1/8" oct. bbl. marked on rib "Made For Smith & Wesson By the Co. Lowell, Mass"; Rollin White Arms Co. portion of mark has been obscured. Solid brass frame w/ 7 shot cyl. Case colored hammer. Walnut right grip panel & rosewood left grip panel. CONDITION: bbl. & cyl. have gray/ brown appearance w/ peppery oxidation throughout. Hammer shows some case colors w/ oxidation. Brass frame has dark patina throughout w/ noticeable area of deep marks on right side. Grips show flaking varnish. Good bore w/ some light pitting.
