Overall length: 37 1/2". Blade length: 32”. A fine example of an M1891 Russian Cossack saber or Shasqua. The plain blade has a single wide fuller with various proofs and stamps at the ricasso. The brass hilt has stampings on the lower ferrule that appear to include the date 1931. The bird head-shaped pommel has a centralized lanyard hole and is decorated with a scrolled hammer and sickle motif and the letters “C.C.C.P.” Diagonally fluted wooden grip. Brass-mounted wooden scabbard with a black-painted body. The mounts are stamped with various proof marks, including “HB” and the number “16” that appear on the hilt. The scabbard is constructed to also hold a Mosin Nagant bayonet that is not present. CONDITION: blade has a mottled patina and has seen some sharpening. Scabbard is solid but shows wear.
