CARBINE. Cal. 7.62x54R. S# 178144. Serial number matches on receiver, bbl., bolt, buttplate & floorplate. Import marked on right side of bbl. Bbl. 20 1/4". Carbine is altered from a Cossack Model rifle. Bbl. markings, although somewhat obscured by the arsenal rework finish, are horizontal bow w/ vertical arrow Izhevsk Arsenal marking, "KA3" that indicates a Cossack model rifle, dated "1899" & Cyrilic marking below Imperial eagle appears as "EbCKIH". Hex receiver is marked w/ Imperial eagle. Tangent rear sight graduated to 1000 meters. Post front sight w/ protective hood. Straight bolt handle. Cleaning rod is present. Hardwood stock set. Forend held by two bands retained by springs. Green web sling w/ leather collars. CONDITION: stock set has very good appearance w/ arsenal rework type finish & scattered handling marks. Fine crack in top of handguard extends between upper & lower bands. Metal has 80% arsenal rework blue finish. Receiver shows heavy polishing. Lower buttplate screw is not present. Bore is shiny, but w/ moderately worn lands. PROVENANCE: from the collection of Mark Ivey Godfrey. (24-5233/RW). CURIO. $200-400.
