BREITENSTEIN. Cal. 58. NSN. Bbl. 34 1/2" heavy oct. bbl. fitted w/ buck horn rear & German silver blade front sights. Maker's name engraved on top flat. Daniel Breitenstein is known more for his contemporary long rifles. Consignor states that the rifle was made for him & that this is the only Hawken type rifle he ever made. Rifle features correctly styled lock & other iron furniture & is fitted w/ dbl. set triggers. Stock is of dark, nicely figured American walnut & features swept right hand cheekpiece & pewter forend tip. A hickory ramrod w/ horn tip is held by two plain pipes mounted on under rib & matching plain iron thimble. CONDITION: very fine, nicely aged giving classic appearance. Rifle appears to have been fired very little & has only a few minor handling marks. Bore is bright & shiny, but has some minor rusting toward muzzle. Mechanically fine. (01-18758/MGM).
