Cal. .455 Mark II. S# 14398. Bbl. 6 1/2" with integral 1/2 moon front sight; fame notched rear. Mfg. 1915-1917 for England within known Commercial range of 13000-16000. Crossed pennants on left top front of frame plus Enfield proof having Broad Arrow, "E" and "II" (Second Model) on left rear of frame by top of back strap; no additional proofs or marks. Matching numbered frame, barrel (with "B" indicating blued finish), cylinder and extractor. Unnumbered checkered walnut grips are correct Service style with diamond centers and recessed gold medallions. Proper lanyard swivel in butt. Smooth gripstraps. Case colored smooth faced trigger and hammer with finely checkered spur. Speculation would suggest this was supplied during England's dire need for firearms and proofed upon arrival at Enfield. CONDITION: good with factory quality refinish being slightly glossier than normal; proofs have raised "halos" that have not been polished over (proofed after refinish). Light marks and finish loss showing mainly on barrel. Peppery oxidation on gripstraps. High point finish loss plus portions of cylinder to include turn line. Lanyard swivel with grey patina tone. Faded case colors with slight pinprick oxidation. Light marks and faint before refinish light pitting. Moderate pitting and oxidation on side of frame under grips. Very good to excellent bright shiny bore with hint of lead build up. Fair to good grips with filled-in checkering and hand wear. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of George Staden S&W Member #3451. (25-66/NW). CURIO. $500-750.
