LOADING PERCUSSION CARBINE. Cal. 54. S# 7415. Bbl. 22 1/8". Standard configuration w/ hinged Merrill patent folding breech w/ maker & patent information stamped on breech & lock. Brass mounted including hinged toolbox. This carbine was mfg. in 1862 & a fine survivor of a popular carbine that saw action in all theatres of war. CONDITION: good to very good overall, all original & matching. Iron is overall mottled gray patina w/ pitting, stampings all very good & discernable. Brass furniture has smooth light mustard patina. Stock is sound w/ numerous sm. dings & dents as expected. Inspectors cartouche is visible above saddle ring. Mechanically fine w/ well defined rifled bore. PROVENANCE: From the Collection of James B.
