PHILADELPHIA. Cal. 41. S# 193. Bbl. 6 7/8”. This rarely seen revolver was manufactured by Jesse Butterfield of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and is commonly called the Army model revolver. Only about 640 of these revolvers were produced from 1861 to 1862. The top of the frame is marked “BUTTERFIELD’S PATENT DEC 11. 1855 PHILADA”. This gun was originally made under a government contract for 2,280 pieces. After production of approx. 640 examples, the contract was abruptly canceled. The serial number is stamped on the barrel, butt & at the base of both grips. CONDITION: the revolver has a pleasing, though well-worn, finish. The brass has a fine mellow patina. Grips show expected wear. The loading lever, front sight & small brass nut near the trigger are replacements. The action does function, but needs adjustment. Fair bore. (01-23150/BF). $2,000-3,000.
