31" double edged, central fuller blade, maker etched "N.P. Ames / Cutler / Springfield", etched with patriotic panels including drooped wing American eagle with 13 stars holding ribbon emblazoned "LIBERTY" in its beak. This is unique American pattern somewhat copied from British general's sword with concave split guard, beaded edge decoration, ribbed sheet silver grip, original leather scabbard mounted with 3 ribbed brass mounts, clamshell frog button on throat. CONDITION: very good overall, blade retains some luster, overall gray with all discernible etching. Hilt retains over half of its original gold wash & scabbard mounts retain strong traces. Leather scabbard body has old glued crack repair, fits sword well and presents it nicely. PROVENANCE: Lifelong collection of Robert "Mike" Bricker. (02-22315/JS). $1,200-1,500.
