MILITIA MUSKET. Cal. 70. NSN. Bbl. 43.5" w/ no external proofs. Lock is marked forward of cock “US” below eagle, at tail in arc “BRIDGEWATER”. Rufus Perkins of Bridgewater Mass originally had a government contract but only delivered 200 guns by 1810, so his contract was voided & he sold his product privately to militias. CONDITION: good to very good overall. Bbl. cleaned to a bright gray w/ staining & pitting. Lock is smooth gray patina w/ very good markings. Probable reconversion. The lock parts have similar surface. Stock is sound, sanded, well disguised inset between lock & bbl. tang, glued crack repair on left side between side plate & bbl. tang.
