SINGLE-SHOT MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. .577 SNIDER. S# 3298. Bbl. 36 1/2". Ladder rear sight graduated to 950 yards. Stud type front sight. Receiver is marked on top "III". Breech block made w/ latch & has "broad arrow", "WD" & "view mark". Bbl marked on left side w/ "2", "STEEL" & numerous view marks. Cupped hammer. Lockplate marked "1860", "ENFIELD" & crown "V.R.". 3 steel clamping bands. Brass furniture. Walnut stock is marked on right side of butt w/ faint Enfield roundel & 1 over 2. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 18" triangular blade bayonet marked only on top of blade w/ "E25" view mark. Triangular leather scabbard w/ brass throat & tip. Throat is marked on frog hook "35" & "28". Blade has shiny appearance w/ scattered spots of light oxidation. Balance of metal turned overall patina w/ light wear. Scabbard has wear & flexing w/ generally tight stitching. Brass tip & throat show extensive wear & handling marks w/ cleaned appearance. CONDITON: stock set has considerable wear due to long hard service w/ added finish over staining, scratches & handling marks. Metal is predominantly gray w/ patina & traces on blue in protected areas. Breechblock hinge is loose. Brass has pleasing patina appearance. Bore has strong lands w/ fine pitting throughout & scattered larger pits. Bore has shallow ring approx. 6" behind muzzle. (01-22727/RW). ANTIQUE. $700-900.
