Cal. 16 Ga. S# 27. Charles E Billings was President of Roper Repeating Rifle CO. from 1865-1869,then operated 1869-1876 with Christopher Spencer. Bbl. 25" w/ tall bead. Trapdoor style action. Walnut stock set. CONDITION: barrel has brown patina appearance with traces of blue at muzzle & pitting throughout. Re-nickeled action with pinprick patina. Sanded & refinished wood shows bolt repair through wrist with screw's head on right side along with large crack extending from top tang. Wood finish shows blistering with vice marks & other cracks. Bore shows pitting. PROVENANCE: Estate of Groves Herrick. (01-28895/MD). ANTIQUE. $400-600.
