SERIES "AC 45" CODE MODEL HP SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL. Cal. 9x19mm. S# 026216. Bbl. 4 7/8". 1 of only approx. 1,830 Zero Series Model HP (P.38) semi-automatic pistols mfg. by Walther in 1945. The left side of the slide is marked "P.38", with Walther's mfg. code and the 2-digit year of mfg. "ac 45" marked towards the safety lever. Right side of the slide is marked with a single Walther Eagle/359 proof and an eagle firing proof. Metal components exhibit a salt blue finish overall. Frame is mounted with 2-piece grooved brown pressed resin grips. Dovetailed blade front sight with U-notch rear sight. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame (right), slide (top of right rail), bbl., as well as the locking block. Bbl. is extremely unusual in that the rifling stops approx. 7/8" from the muzzle, with the last 7/8" being smoothbore. This appears to have been factory done and not altered at a later time. MAGS: 1 8-rd. mag. marked "P.38v/ U", exhibiting what appears to be a phosphate finished body, with a blued floorplate and follower. CONDITION: extremely fine, with metal components retaining the vast majority of their original arsenal blue finish, showing a few spots of light edge wear as well as a few superficial handling marks. Right side of slide exhibits a few patches of very light pitting. Front grip shows show some very light thinning. Brilliant mirror bore, retaining well defined rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics, including the safety / decocking lever. Grips show a few superficial marks from handling and storage, but otherwise remain sturdy and serviceable. An exceptional example of the last Walther Model HP variation, that one would find especially difficult to upgrade from. (25-4586/MLW). CURIO. $2,750-3,500.
