Cal. 8x57 (8mm Mauser). S# 7576a. Bbl. 19". Blade front sight with hood. Tangent rear sight graduated to 1000m. Bolt is from another G33/40 carbine & is mismatched. Receiver top has "dot 1942" markings. Various receiver markings have added white highlight paint. Blued finish. Replacement walnut stock is from an earlier G33/40 & appears unnumbered. Stock markings are very faint. Recoil lug appears setback. Repro leather sling & blued cleaning rod present. CONDITION: stock set has arsenal rework appearance with scattered cracks on handguard, several impression markings on both sides of butt, scattered dings & handling wear. Metal is mostly a gray patina with scattered traces of arsenal blue, some light pitting, oxidation & light dings. Bolt operates very stiffly but properly when hand cycled. Bore shows scattered oxidation & pitting. PROVENANCE: the Estate Collection of Charles Wagner. (24-4626/MJC). CURIO. $2000-3000.
