CASE. Overall length of stiletto: 12 1/2". Blade length: 7 1/4". Scabbard: 20 1/4". This scarce example of the Case V-42 stiletto was brought back by a soldier from East Aurora, New York. It was developed in 1943 as a commando type weapon by Case. The blued spear point blade has a medial ridge for approx. 5 7/8". There are thumb grooves on the ricasso & “CASE” is stamped below the thumb groove. There is a darkened steel crossguard with leather on top. Stacked leather washer grip with skull crusher pommel. Original brown leather full-length scabbard with lanyard grommet at the base & reinforced throat. An extremely rare & historic fighting knife of WWII. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: a letter from the son of Corporal Richard Youngers explaining how the knife was brought back in 1946. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox. CONDITION: blade has nearly all blued finish intact. Hilt shows very light wear overall. Scabbard also shows light wear and the snap ring is intact. (02-18449/BF). $3,000-4,000.
