RIFLE MUSKET. Cal. 58. NSN. The 33" round barrel attaches to stock with two spring retained bands and has bayonet lug on right hand side near muzzle. Barrel is fitted with two folding leaf rear musket sight and is dated 1859 on breech end. Percussion lock is fitted with tape primer having eagle on cover. Front of lock is stamped "U.S." "HARPERS FERRY". "1859" is on tail. Later type walnut stock with iron nose cap is fitted with patchbox on right side of butt. Remnants of inspectors marks are on left side of stock opposite of lock. Ramrod is of correct type with tulip head and swell on shank. Rifle is fitted with tan leather sling. CONDITION: good. Metal parts showing heavy cleaning to silver with heavy scattered pitting. Wood with old oil refinish, inspector marks hard to read. Bore with some shine has considerable scattered pitting, rifling good. Lock is good. Tape primer works except inner leaf of spring is missing. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E.
