FLINTLOCK PISTOL, EX-MEAD PATTERSON COLLECTION. Cal. 56. NSN. This scarce flintlock pistol was the first pistol made by Henry Deringer who was very involved in longarm production at this point, his early pistols are scarce. Reilly notes no more than 25 survivors, in "United States Martial Flintlocks". Standard configuration: 16 1/8" overall, 9 7/8" round barrel. Beveled flat lock terminating in teat at tail marked "H. DERINGER / PHILA" forward of flat reinforced cock, earliest style with squared toe frizzen and 2 brass ramrod pipes. "HM" inspection in stock flat (Henry Murry-Maryland Chief Armorer). UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: original collection card of Mead Patterson who bought this from Miller Bedford in 1948 for $270. CONDITION: very good overall, original flint, all matching and original, heavy varnish added to stock, smooth iron & brass patina. Mechanics fine, smooth clear bore. (01-23807/JS).
