MILITARY 1911 PISTOL. Cal. 45 ACP. s# 115521. Bbl. 5". Springfield Armory mfg. just over 60,000 1911A1 pistols for the U.S. military between 1914-1917. This particular gun, sometimes referenced as a Type C, was assembled with a long beavertail hammer with rounded spur. As true throughout their production, these guns were rust blued in a process distinct from the finish seen on their counterpart Colts. The left side of the slide was marked with a 3-line address referencing patent dates and an Ordnance bomb behind slide serrations. Right side of slide with the American eagle followed by "MODEL 1911 U.S. ARMY". The left side of the frame rolled with "UNITED STATES PROPERTY". Flaming bomb just behind trigger. Full S# is on the right side of the frame. Fitted with checkered diamond panels. This example with a Colt mag. Limited disassembly shows a correct "S" marked bbl., slide release, bbl. bushing, and takedown lever. MAGS: 1 2-tone 7-rd. CONDITION: G-VG original finish with toning and wear as one might expect from a military pistol that has seen service use over many years, the front and back straps having largely toned to a mellow gray. Grips with oil darkening, the left panel having a 1/4" split near the top left corner. Comparable condition Colt mag. that does not actuate the hold-open. Dull bore with shallow rifling. A scarce and desirable 1911 variation for the serious U.S. military small arms collector. (25-3569/LMA). CURIO. $3,000-4,000.
