MODEL 1903 AUTOMATIC REVOLVER. Cal. 455 Cordite. S# 2316. Bbl. 7 1/2". Webley Fosbery automatic revolver, mfg. by Webley & Son. The left sideplate is marked with the Webley winged bullet logo above "W&S", followed by "455 CORDITE", with the S# "2316" and a Crown/BV Birmingham Proof house proof marked on the right sideplate. The top of the solid bbl. rib is marked "P. WEBLEY & SON. LONDON & BIRMINGHAM.", with "WEBLEY FOSBERY" marked on the left side of the top strap. Cyl. exhibits Crown/BP and Crown/BV Birmingham proofs. Metal components exhibit a blue finish overall. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered vulcanite grips. Lanyard loop is present on the butt. Pinned blade front sight (rear face of blade painted yellow), with U-notch rear sight. All serialized components are matching and include the frame (below the left grip panel), left sideplate (interior), safety lever, right sideplate (exterior), serialized internal components, bbl., bbl. latch, as well as the cyl. CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting areas of wear and thinning overall that show through to gray and brown patinas, with scattered spots of light surface oxidation and cleaned oxidation also present overall. Trigger, safety, bbl. latch, and hammer retain a mostly gray patina. Brilliant mirror bore, exhibiting well-defined rifling throughout. Grips show light to mild smoothing, as well as some nicks and marks to the checkering, with a chip present at the top forward corners on each of the panels. A nice example of a scarce and highly desirable Webley-Fosbery Model 1903 automatic revolver. (24-4083/MLW). CURIO. $5,000-8,000.
