REVOLVER, RR DUPUY, 13TH VIRGINIA LIGHT ARTILLERY. Cal. 31. S# 148844. Bbl. 3" oct. Bbl made w/ out loading assembly, nicknamed by collector’s “Wells Fargo” model, about 6400 of this variation. Engraved on bottom of backstrap in period script is “R. R. Dupuy”. Only one RR Dupuy is found in Civil War soldier database, north or south & little is known other than listed as private in Co. A., 13th Virginia Light Artillery Battalion. This is a very unusual name & could very well be him though enlisted men rarely had privately purchased revolvers. Revolver was manufactured before the war late 1858-early 1859. Interesting that revolver has a standard 4” bbl. attached SN 190361 made in mid-1861 just after Civil War began. The 3” Wells Fargo matching SN bbl. has remained together w/ this gun along w/ period bag flask & cap tin. All housed in modern walnut case w/ brown velour fitted interior. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: copy of roster of Co. A., Virginia 13th Battalion Light Artillery, Company A listing private "R.R. Dupuy". (Otey-Walker's Battery) of the Army of Northern Virginia, Western 32 S&W cartridge box w/ green label containing 2 rds. ammo. CONDITION: cleaned metal has brown gray appearance w/ scattered pitting & surface corrosion. Partially cleaned grip straps retain some silver plating w/ dark tarnish in protected areas. Sanded & refinished grips. Action lacks mainspring tension & will not cycle. Dark pitted bore w/ remnants of rifling. (01-19094/JS). ANTIQUE. $2,000-3,000.
