PERCUSSION RIFLE. Cal. 54. S# 10X. Manufactured in 1852 by Robbins & Lawrence in Windsor, Vermont from remaining earlier production breech loading "rocket ball" rifles, Jennings was precursor to Volcanic and New Haven Arms Henry and Winchesters, similar characteristics seen in construction. Standard configuration with 26" smooth bore barrel, wood ramrod in converted magazine tube, frame has musket nipple on top, inset fixed notch sight, bowed trigger guard, trigger is factory converted from ring trigger, slightly burled dark stock with engraved oval German silver plaque, percussion cap trap rear of hammer on top of frame, sparce engraved scrolls of barrel, frame, hammer, trigger guard, and buttplate. No maker's mark, but "CP DIXON AGENT" stamped on left side of frame. The serial number stamped on the lower tang externally is worn with only the "1" prominent, but "0" can be discerned, and either a "3" or "5" next. A more modern "1" has been stamped on other parts. CONDITION: fair to good overall, appears complete and original, ramrod tube has come unsoldered, metal is mottled brown/gray patina with pitting, mechanically functional, pitted smooth bore.
