Cal. 6.5 Jap. S#6623. Bbl. 31 1/2". Blade front sight with protective ears. Ladder rear sight graduated to 2400m. The Japanese arsenal at Jinsen (present-day Inchon) was the lowest production maker of the Type 38 rifle, with an estimated 12,000 rifles made. Receiver top has ground mum with Type 38 markings. Left side rail has the serial number and proper 30th series marking. Matching serial numbers on the bolt handle, floorplate, and safety. Matching assembly numbers on the extractor and bolt release. Dust cover is mismatched. Other parts appear unnumbered. Blued finish with strawed small parts. Two-piece Asian hardwood stock set with bottom-mounted sling swivels. Bottom of the wrist has a strong Jinsen Kanji inspection stamp. An in-the-white cleaning rod is present. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Jinsen made a Type 30 bayonet with a hooked quillon and scabbard. Scabbard has a bend with a crack about 1/3 down from the tip. CONDITION: stock set shows some staining, scattered dings, and handling wear. Strawed parts retain a high degree of original finish with some light oxidation. Balance of metal retains 92% original blue with cosmoline present in action, scattered light fading, and light edge wear. Very good-plus, bright bore. PROVENANCE: the collection of Curtis H.
