PISTOL. Cal. 7.63mm. S# 20815. Mauser made relatively few Late Large Ring Transitional pistols that were assembled using Conehammer frames. It has a 5.5" bbl. with a fixed front sight & a pinned rear sight graduated from 1-10. Long extractor, single lug firing pin, early variation safety. The usual Mauser address on top of chamber. Crown/”C”/”U” marking on left side of bbl. extension; antler proof on the right side. Left side of frame is marked "VL&D / NEW YORK". The full serial number is on the back of the frame & repeated on the all the usual major & minor parts, including sight bar, firing pin, locking block & each of the grip panels. Fitted with serrated walnut grips. Factory lanyard ring. Major components are rust blued. Most of the small parts are fire blued or in the white. CONDITION: approx. 95% rust blue, the bbl. / extension having been recoated with rust blue along with the floorplate. Original blue on the frame & original fire blue on the small parts whose condition matches that of the frame. Grips with much of the original varnish, oil darkened, with scattered handling marks. Slightly dull bore with easily discernable rifling. Perfect manual mechanics. A nice & all matching example of the seldom encountered Late Large Ring Transitional C96. (22-3145/LMA). CURIO.$2,000-4,000.
