MUSKET. Cal. 58 Rimfire. NSN. Bbl. 31 1/2". These scarce conversions were found in a variety of bbl. lengths, all made from cut down 40" bbls. which accepted 58 cal. rimfire cartridges utilizing a tilt up locking breech. Original musket hammers had noses that were cut & reshaped, case hardened along w/ locks. Original front sights & nose caps moved to match appropriate bbl. lengths. Top of the well machined breech marked “W. H. & G. W. MILLER / PATENT MAY 23, 1865 / MERIDEN MANFG. CO. / MERIDEN, CONN.” Lock is standard 1864 dated Springfield. CONDITION: fine overall, breech & lock retain much of their case colors. Iron components are bright. Stock has sharp edges & raised frame w/ few minor storage dings w/ inspectors initials stamped rear of trigger guard. Mechanically crisp w/ bright, shiny bore. (01-19004/JS). ANTIQUE. $800-1,200.
