HOLSTER AND BELT. The set comprises a dark blue web holster & belt w/ brass fittings which have Navy insignia. The fittings were blackened by a process known as 'Mills Bronze' by the company. The holster is made of one piece of woven web material. The flap is closed by a snap which has the naval insignia consisting of an eagle over a horizontal anchor encircled by 13 stars. The bbl. portion of the holster has a brass cap fastened by 6 rivets. The trigger guard area of the holster has 3 reinforcing rivets. The brass hooks on the back are retained by a plate marked "MILLS WOVEN CARTRIDGE BELT CO. SOLE MAKER". The accompanying blue woven belt marked on the brass tab at each end "MILLS WOVEN CARTRIDGE BELT CO. SOLE MAKER WORCESTER, MASS". Belt is equipped w/ circular plate w/ the eagle over horizontal anchor motif. There are 8 pockets each holding 6 cartridges. The pockets are retained by a single snap each having the eagle, anchor and star motif. This holster & belt is referenced on pages 537 & 765 of the book U.S. MILITARY HOLSTERS AND RELATED ACCOUTREMENTS by Edward Scott Meadows. CONDITION: belt and holster have a very good appearance w/ only light wear & fading. Blackened metal parts have moderate loss of finish but leave a pleasing patinaed appearance.
