RIFLE. Cal. 7.7 Jap. S# 4114. Bbl. 31". Blade front sight with protective ears. Aperture rear sight with AA wings. Scarce early Nagoya-made "Long" rifle that is longer than the later production Type 99s. Nagoya only made about 8000 long rifles before making short rifles. All matching numbers, including firing pin. Receiver top has intact mum with added white highlight and Type 99 markings. Left side of the receiver has the serial number and Nagoya symbol. Blued finish. Monopod present that is unmarked but appears to be an original correct long type. Asian hardwood stock with two-piece butt, bottom-mounted sling swivels, and repro sling. Underside of stock has strong kanji markings. Celaning rod present. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: late war National Denki made Type 30 bayonet with wood scabbard. CONDITION: stock set shows a large gouge on the right side of butt, a few smaller gouges, a notable 3" crack on the left side of the wrist, scattered dings, black staining, and handling wear. Metal has a mix of original and reblued finishes, with some blued-over pitting on receiver, a few other patches of pitting, scattered fading to brown, edge wear, and oxidation. Action functions properly when hand-cycled. Very good, bright bore. PROVENANCE: from the collection of Mark Ivey Godfrey. (24-5256/MJC). CURIO. $350-550.
