ELGRIFLE. Cal. 8x57 Mauser. S# 1674. Numbers match on receiver & bolt. Bbl. 22 7/8". Two position L type sight dovetailed into receiver ring & graduated to 300 meters. Blade type front sight w/ windage adj. screw. These interesting rifles were mfg. by Kongsberg Arsenal to supply sporting rifles for the civilian market. The rifles were called the "Elgrifle". The Scandinavian term Elk is equivalent to the term Moose. The rifles were made in the 8X57 Mauser cartridge which was not only more powerful than the 6.5X55 cartridge but was more readily available. Receiver ring is marked on top w/ Crown, "1950", Rampant Lion. Left side of receiver ring retains partial boxed acceptance mark. Bbl. is marked on left side "7.9X57 MAUSER". Rifle is equipped w/ flag type safety & mag. cutoff. Checkered hardwood pistol grip stock made w/out grasping grooves. Bbl. band is retained by spring on left side of rifle. Original military style sling swivel replaced by 3/4" Sporting type in bbl. band. Rear swivel is 3/4" sporting type. Forend is equipped w/ 81/2" cleaning rod. Grooved sheet metal buttplate. CONDITION: stock set has light wear & scattered handling marks retaining approx. 85% of original finish. Brass pin reinforcement by left forward end of trigger guard. Metal retains 90% of original blue finish w/ scattered sm. handling marks. Bright bolt w/ beginnings of gray coloration. Very good shiny bore. (23-639/RW). CURIO. $600-900.
