"1938" DATE "S/42" CODE P.08 LUGER SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL. Cal. 9mm Luger. S# 2428i. Bbl. 4". P.08 Luger semi-automatic pistol mfg. by Mauser in 1938 for the German Kriegsmarine. The top of bbl. extension is marked with the 4-digit year of mfg. "1938", with Mauser Eagle/63 proofs marked on the right. Toggle is marked with Mauser's "S/42" mfg. code marked. Front grip strap is Kriegsmarine Ostsee property marked "O.3707". Metal components exhibit a salt blue finish overall. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips. Dovetailed blade front sight, with fixed V-notch rear sight. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, safety lever & bar, hold-open latch, bbl., bbl. extension, trigger bar, breechblock, extractor, firing pin, toggles, rear toggle pin, as well as the grips. MAGS: 1 non-matching (S# 3782) blued 8-rd. mag. with aluminum bottom. CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of their original arsenal salt blue finish, exhibiting some areas of wear and thinning, some superficial handling marks, as well as scattered spots of light to mild surface oxidation and pitting overall. Grip straps exhibit wear and thinning that shows through to gray patina, with light pitting present on the rear grip strap. Sideplate exhibits wear and thinning that shows through to brown patina. Bright bore, exhibiting consistent mild to moderate pitting, while retaining strong rifling throughout. Grips show mild smoothing, as well as some scattered marks from handling and storage, but otherwise remain sturdy and serviceable.
