CONVERSION SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL. Cal. 9mm Luger. S# 6943. Bbl. 4". Originally mfg. in 1917 as a Model 1914 Navy Luger, this example was subsequently reworked by Simson after the conclusion of World War I into a P.08 configuration for police use. The top of the bbl. extension is marked "1917" over the chamber, with Imperial German navy crown proofs and the reworked S# marked on the left. Toggle is marked with the intertwined "DWM" monogram. The top left of the bbl. is marked with a Simson Eagle/33 (also marked on trigger bar) proof towards the breech, with an Eagle/2 proof marked on the underside. Right side of the breechblock is marked with Erfurt arsenal proofs. Frame is marked with the S# above a crown proof. Metal components exhibit an arsenal reapplied blue finish overall (likely from the time of rework), with some small parts including the takedown lever, trigger, safety lever, and ejector exhibiting a straw finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips. Frame is arsenal modified with a Walther mag. safety (clipped, but still present), with the bbl. extension featuring a Schiwy sear safety. All serialized parts are matching from the time of rework, and include the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, safety lever & bar, hold-open latch, bbl., bbl. extension (on left side and on lug), trigger bar, breechblock, extractor, firing pin, as well as the toggles. Interestingly, most small parts exhibit a "." following, above, or below the S#. Grips are matching via a handwritten "6943" in pencil on the interior of the panels. MAGS: 1 blued 8-rd., with wood bottom marked "2851". CONDITION: excellent, with metal components retaining bountiful amounts of their arsenal reapplied blue finish, exhibiting some spots of light to mild wear and thinning (primarily on edges), with a few scattered superficial handling marks present overall. Strawed parts retain much of their finish, exhibiting some light wear and thinning that shows through to gray patina. Very bright bore, exhibiting consistent light pitting, while retaining strong rifling throughout. Grips show some smoothing to the checkering, as well as some marks and minor impressions from handling and storage, but otherwise remain sturdy and serviceable. A very nice and attractive example of a Simson navy to P.08 Luger conversion pistol. PROVENANCE: The Estate Collection of Charles Wagner. (25-372/MLW). CURIO. $1,200-2,000.
