BOLT ACTION CARBINE. Cal. 7mm Mauser. S# 4042. Bbl. 17 3/4". Blade front sight with protective ears. Ladder rear sight graduated to 1400m. Spanish American War-era Mauser carbine made by Ludwig Loewe. The top of the receiver has a Spanish crest with the date 1894. The left side rail has Loewe & Espanol Modelo 1893 markings. Matching numbers on the receiver, rear sight parts, bolt shroud, safety, trigger guard, and stock. Floorplate and bolt body numbers are faint and illegible. One of the rear sight base screws is missing. Walnut stock set with saddle ring on the underside of the wrist. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: brass muzzle cap that is numbered "47." CONDITION: sanded stock set has an added varnish with a rough area behind the saddle bar, some chipping, scattered dings, and handling wear. Metal has a mostly light gray patina with some pitting and scattered oxidation. Bore shows scattered oxidation and pitting but may clean up better.
