STALKING RIFLE BY J.G. ANSCHUTZ WITH SCOPE. Cal. 8.15x47R. S# 12320 (1937). This fast handling rifle has 26-1/4" octagon barrel that has eight flutes milled in to reduce weight. Top flat is matted and holds one standing, one folding "U" notch rear and gold bead front sights. Claw scope bases are fitted to rear of barrel and top of action. S# is on left flat and bottom of barrel is stamped with December 1937 German nitro proofs. Case hardened action with dropping/tilting block has right wall cut away to aid in loading and is fitted with tang safety. Opening lever with spring catch is fitted with teardrop shaped small wood panels. Double set triggers are fitted. Action is line border engraved and left side is stamped with small maker's mark. "J" "G" "A" in a circle (J.G. Anschutz). Horn capped pistol grip buttstock of relatively plain European walnut is nicely shaped and measures 14" over ribbed horn buttplate and features swept right hand Tyrolian cheekpiece, sculpted side panels and well cut point pattern grip checkering with broad mullered boarders. Matching forend with schnabled tip attaches to barrel with side bolt through oval steel escutcheons. A German silver oval on bottom is engraved with a monogram "HW". The rifle is mounted with Burris 4X compact scope with duplex retical in well done custom claw rings. WEIGHT with scope: 8 lb. 1 oz. CONDITION: very fine; retaining over 90% original finish on all wood and metal surfaces, exhibiting high edge wear and some thinning of case hardening color on tangs. There are a good number of minor marks in wood and there is a small repaired crack on left side panel behind action. Bore is bright and shiny throughout. Mechanically fine. Scope is also fine; optically clear. A really neat little rifle in a caliber which in some loadings is equal to the 30-30 Winchester or 32 Special. (25-2475/MGM). CURIO. $2,750-3,750.
