SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL. Cal. 9mm Luger. S# 3490v. Bbl. 7 7/8". 1 of only 100 LP.08 Luger semi-automatic pistol mfg. by Mauser under contract for the Bangkok police in Thailand. The bbl. extension is marked with the 4-digit year of mfg. "1936" over the chamber, with a double crowned "U" commercial proof marked on the left (also present on left side of breechblock and on front face of the front sight block). Toggle is marked with the Mauser banner logo. Rear of frame is marked with with a Siamese lion head within a circle proof, followed by a Bangkok police property number in Siamese numerals (#233). Underside of frame exhibits an Odin import mark, just ahead of the trigger guard. Metal components exhibit a blue finish overall, with some small parts retaining some traces of their original straw finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips. Dovetailed blade front sight, with adj. V-notch rear sight. Nearly all numbers are matching and include the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, safety lever & bar, bbl. extension, trigger bar, breechblock, extractor, firing pin, as well as the toggles. Grips are unnumbered and hold-open latch is numbered "91" (more than likely coming from the next pistol in the contract). Bbl. is unnumbered and rear sight is mis-matched, as is corrected for this contract. MAGS: 1 blued non-matched (S# 3464v, within the correct Thai LP.08 contract S# range) mag. with aluminum bottom, appropriately marked with a "+" above an Eagle/63 proof. CONDITION: metal components retain good amounts of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting wear and thinning that shows through to a dark gray patina, as well as light oxidation and light pitting overall, to be expected from firearms issued and used in a tropical environment. Sides of bbl. extension (at rear) and sides of frame (beneath the grip panels) exhibit moderate pitting. Strawed parts retain traces of their original finish, with the balance exhibiting a gray patina and scattered spots/areas of age related discoloration. Very bright bore, exhibiting light to mild pitting, while retaining well defined rifling throughout. Grips show heavy smoothing, as well as some superficial marks and minor impressions from handling and storage, but otherwise remain sturdy and serviceable. Mag. exhibits areas of wear and thinning that show through to gray patina, with areas of oxidation and pitting present overall. Mag. bottom exhibits a brown patina, that is consistent with Bangkok's climate. A very scarce example of a Thai contract Mauser LP.08 Luger pistol. PROVENANCE: the Estate Collection of Charles Wagner. (25-291/MLW). CURIO. $2,000-3,000.
