"GRANDPA" NUMBER SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL WITH DESIRABLE REPRODUCTION STOCK. Cal. 8mm Nambu. S# 2138. Bbl. 4 3/4". 1 of only approx. 2,400 Model 1902 "Grandpa" Nambu semi-automatic pistols mfg. at the Tokyo Artillery Arsenal. The top of the frame is marked with the Tokyo Artillery Arsenal insignia, with Kanji characters denoting "Nambu Type" above the S# on the right. Frame and bbl./bbl. extension exhibit a blue finish, with the bolt, firing pin, and locking block being polished in-the-white. Extractor, trigger, striker spring guide, and several other small parts are strawed. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips. Dovetailed blade front sight, with V-notch tangent rear sight, graduated 1-5. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame, trigger guard, trigger, mag. latch assembly, recoil spring guide rod, bbl./bbl. extension, ejector, locking block, bolt, firing pin, striker spring guide, cocking knob, as well as the grips. MAGS: 1 non-matching (S# "245") 8-rd. with wood plug. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: desirable wood shoulder stock featuring blued and nitre blued fittings, with a collapsible lug, containing reproduction cleaning rod. CONDITION: metal components retain good amounts of their original blue finish, showing areas of wear and thinning that are fading to gray patina, with scattered freckling overall. Grip straps show heavy wear fading to a dark gray patina, with consistent and dark mild surface oxidation. Grip safety shows an area of moderate pitting. Strawed parts retain fair amounts of their original finish, showing wear that shows through to gray patina, with scattered spots of age related discoloration. Right side of the mag. latch button showing heavy pitting on the rear. Bright bore, exhibiting consistent light pitting, while retaining strong rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Grips show mild smoothing as well as some scattered marks and impressions from handling and storage, but otherwise remain sturdy and serviceable. Wood mag. plug exhibits a repaired split. Stock shows some scattered marks from handling and storage, with some light wear and thinning on hardware, but otherwise presents very nicely. Front of stock body exhibits a crack that stems from the mating face to the loop plate. Stock lid does not lock in the close position. (25-3509/MLW). CURIO. $12,000-18,000.
