P.38 SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL ASSEMBLED ON FABRIQUE NATIONALE FRAME, WITH HOLSTER. Cal. 9x19mm Parabellum. S# 5522c. Bbl 4 7/8". P.38 manufactured at the Walther arsenal in 1945. This example, falls within the appropriate serial number range and exhibits the characteristics of a P.38 that was assembled by a U.S.G.I. after the Allied capture of the Walther arsenal. The left side of the frame bears the serial number followed by an Fabrique Nationale Eagle/140 waffenamt, with an FN "MI" inspection proof stamped on the lower trigger web. The left side of the slide bears standard markings, with the right side only bearing a single Walther Eagle/359 waffenamt. Major metal components are blued, with some smaller components including the front sight blade, extractor, firing pin/indicator cover, and slide release lever exhibiting a late war phosphate finish. Frame is mounted with 2 piece grooved brown pressed resin grips. No matching numbers are present, but are all within the "c" serial number block, as is typical with P.38s in this G.I. assembled variation. Locking block is unserialized, bearing only an Eagle/359 waffenamt on the right. MAGS: 2 8 rnd. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: G.I. modified brown leather holster dated "1944" on the rear. Closure flap has been cut, exposing the butt of the pistol. CONDITION: metal components retain the vast majority of their original arsenal applied blue and phosphate finishes, exhibiting some mild holster wear along the edges, thinning and wear on the grip strap that show through to a pleasant gray patina, as well as some scattered superficial marks from handling and storage. Brilliant mirror bore, exhibiting sharp and well defined rifling throughout. Grips exhibit a few marks from handling and storage, but are otherwise very good overall. Holster shows wear, some areas of creasing, and a few spots of light crazing, but otherwise remains sturdy and serviceable. A very nice and desirable U.S.G.I. P.38 assembled on a Fabrique Nationale frame. (23-2453/MLW). CURIO. $1,500-2,500.
