FLINTLOCK MUSKET. Cal. 71. NSN. Bbl. 42.5" rnd. w/ “O” proof at breech. Standard configuration of late production Whitney model 1798s, made 1808-1809. Lock w/ brass pan, marked w/ eagle above “NEW HAVEN” & at tail in arc “U. STATES”. Stock has large oval cartouche of Robert Orr, script “US” / “ORR”. Stock has large “SC” stamped on top of comb near buttplate showing later state ownership. CONDITION: good to very good overall appears original & complete other than replaced top jaw & screw. Markings in metal are very good. Inspector’s cartouche is light, only partially discernible. Bbl. & bands have mottled gray patina w/ pitting & darker at breech. Buttplate & trigger guard have mixed dark iron patina. Lock smooth gray patina. Stock is well fit, refinished & varnished. Large chips at front & back of lock, about 1" piece missing between lock & bbl. tang. Mechanically fine. Dark clear bore. PROVENANCE: The Estate Collection of Gary Parietti. (01-19279/JS).
