LEVER ACTION SRC. Cal. 44 Russian. S# 22531. In 1869 & 1870, Smith & Wesson filled a contract w/ Russia for revolvers in 44 S&W Russian cal. Case dimensions were length .960, rim diameter .520 & base diameter .460. Winchester & other companies were also pursuing possible Russian contracts & testing the 44 Russian cartridge. Bbl. 20" carbine style w/ 2 line marking "HENRY'S PATENT-OCT.16,1860 / KING'S PATENT-MARCH 29,1866". Cal. marking between receiver & rear sight is "44 RUSS.". Mag. band mounted blade front sight w/ carbine leaf rear sight. Brass action w/ case colored hammer & lever having staple fastened saddle ring on left side. Replacement band fastened walnut forearm & straight grip stock having crescent steel trapdoor buttplate. Mfg. 1869. CONDITION: finely restored carbine. Bbl., mag. tube & saddle ring retain 99% nicely polished reblued finish. Hammer & lever have very good restored case colors. Wood has very good finish. Brass receiver & buttplate show a pleasing mild patina. Bore retains sharp rifling. (01-23946/DS). ANTIQUE. $20000-30000.
