RIFLE. Cal. 30-03. S# 51815. Bbl 23 7/8". Model 1895 chambered in .30-03 Springfield manufactured by Winchester in 1905. Left side of barrel is stamped "NICKEL STEEL BARREL/ ESPECIALLY FOR SMOKELESS PWDER", with the caliber designation ".30 U.S.MOD.1903." stamped over the top of the breech. Left side of receiver bears Winchester's 2 line address. Receiver exhibits a matte crosshatched panel over the chamber. Flip up globe from sight, with dovetailed flip up rear sight, and receiver side mounted Lyman adjustable aperture rear sight. Metal components exhibit a blued finish with the furniture consisting of a plain straight grip buttstock featuring a shotgun buttplate, and a smooth ebony inlaid schnabel tip forend. Furniture appears to have been lightly sanded and revarnished at one time. CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting areas of wear and thinning that show through to a pleasant patina, that are primarily concentrated on the receiver and lever. Bore is bright, exhibiting consistent mild oxidation and well defined rifling throughout. Wood furniture is very good as revarnished, exhibiting some mild superficial marks from storage and handling. A nice example of a Winchester Model 1895 rifle chambered in a scarce caliber. (23-2305/MLW). CURIO. $1,500-2,000.
