MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 7.62x54R. S# 84804. Serial number matches on bbl. & bolt. Import marked on right side of bbl. Bbl. 27". Bbl. is marked over chamber w/ Tikkakoski's "T" & "inverted triangle" which is also encircled. Additionally marked w/ "D" for heavy ball ammunition & "1938". Interestingly there is no Finish property marking on this rifle. These rifles were the first attempt by Finland to develop a universal "short rifle". The design which utilized a heavier bbl., better sights & improved trigger led to the improved model 28/30 & ultimately the Model 39. The Konovalov rear sight has been re-graduated in meters & given a square sighting notch. The blade front sight has two outward curved protective ears which gave the rifle its nickname "Spitz" by the supposed resemblance to the Finnish dog breed. Straight bolt handle. Unmarked hex receiver. Hinged upper band w/ bayonet lug has the welded-on metal bars designed to reinforce the stock for use with the bayonet. Cleaning rod is present. Hardwood stock set. The stock has the 2 piece construction w/ rounded finger joints. Buttstock is made in two parts, likely to conserve stock material. Metal aligned sling slots carry the typical finish. Stirrup sling swivels. Lower band is retained by transverse screw. Buttstock is marked on right side w/ the "L" acceptance mark. CONDITION: stock has lightly worn finish w/ staining & scattered handling marks. 2 inletted round plugs on the left side of the stock likely to cover knots. Handguard has notably darker finish than buttstock. Metal retains 80% original blue w/ light wear & thinning. Bolt is finished bright. Very good shiny bore w/ sharp lands. (24-4996/RW). CURIO. $500-800.
