SINGLE SHOT MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 8mm Lebel. NSN. Bbl. 30". Marked on top ahead of lower band "CAL.8MM". These scarce rifles were used by France to arm rear echelon troops. They were also used in the colonies post-war & saw hard service. This example is much higher condition than those usually encountered. Ladder rear sight graduated to 2,400 meters. Inverted V front sight w/ its distinctive band mounting. Receiver tang is marked "REMINGTON ARMS-UNION METALLIC CTG. CO., / REM. WORKS, ILION, N.Y. U.S.A. PATD. OCT. 23, 1901". Markings are enhanced w/ white. Rotary extractor. Walnut stock set. Bayonet lug & cleaning rod are present. Forend secured by two bands. Buttstock marked on right side at buttplate "80". CONDITION: stock set has lightly worn original finish w/ light staining & scattered small handling marks. Metal turning gray & patina w/ traces of original blue. Receiver has a small amount of its original case colors. Action is crisp and tight. Very good shiny bore w/ sharp lands. (01-27201/RW). ANTIQUE. $600-900.
