Cal. 8mm Mauser. S# 1775k. Bbl. 23 5/8". Blade front sight with K98k style hood. Tangent rear sight graduated to 2000m. Scarce Hungarian-made G98/40 rifle used by the Germans in WW2. Mismatched replacement cleaning rod, other visible matching numbers. Receiver top has WWII German eagle "173", "jhv" for FEG factory, and 43 date. Many markings have added white highlight paint. Blued finish. Walnut stock set with left side sling provisions and repro K98k sling. Stock has strong "jhv" and eagle "173" markings. CONDITION: stock set appears lightly cleaned with added oil finish, a few abrasions, scattered dings, and handling marks. Metal retains 95% of what appears to be a museum-grade reblue with some light fading and a couple areas of light pitting. Action functions properly when hand-cycled. Good, bright bore, with some light pitting and frosting but strong rifling. PROVENANCE: from the collection of Mark Ivey Godfrey. (24-5225/MJC). CURIO. $800-1,200.
